Which insurers document the strongest cancer cover
Of the 4 insurers whose cancer cover wording we hold, AXA Health, Saga and The Exeter include cancer cover in the core plan without a stated cap — the strongest position on this benefit in our set. That is a fact about the documents, not a recommendation: the right policy for you depends on far more than one benefit.
| Insurer | Position | What the document says |
|---|---|---|
| AXA Health | In the plan | Personal Health offers two distinct levels of cancer cover, so the level held changes what is paid. |
| Saga | In the plan | Cancer is handled in its own dedicated section with an Extended Cancer Cover option on top, separate from the general rules on recurrent, continuing and long-term treatment. |
| The Exeter | In the plan | Cancer cover runs to all stages once diagnosed, including palliative and terminal treatment, with no time or financial cap. |
| WPA | In the plan, capped | Targeted cancer therapies under the Cancer Care option are funded only with curative intent and only where not available on the NHS, and adding it brings a minimum £500 excess. |
What makes cancer cover strong
On cancer cover, the wording that matters is whether the benefit sits in the core plan or an add-on, whether there is a cap, and whether a referral is needed before you can claim. A plan that includes it with no limit is worth more than one that names it but caps it low — which is why the fact that two policies both "cover" cancer cover tells you very little on its own.
How to weigh it for you
The strongest wording on cancer cover is not automatically the right policy. A plan that leads on it may cost more, carry a narrower hospital list, or cap something else you need. Weigh cancer cover against the rest of the cover and the price rather than choosing on one line.
